2019 May Field Test Results

The VSO held the annual Spring Field Test on Saturday, May 4, 2019. The tests were originally scheduled for May 4 & 5, 2016 however there were only 14 entries overall, 8 for the Saturday test and 6 for Sunday, a record low. So, the decision was made to run both tests on Saturday. If you spent the past winter in Ontario, you know that starting in January 2019 there was a lot of snow, ice, and rain. The rain and cold temperatures persisted well into spring, making it very difficult if not impossible to do any field training. That was the likely reason why our entries were so low for our spring field test. Our club was not alone with such a challenge this spring. It was later learned that Vizsla Canada cancelled their June test in Ontario due to low entries.
The weather was good for the test, not hot but no rain. The cover was not great and there bigger and more ponds than normal, but Mike Wilshire was able to supplement the natural cover with some hay. We had initially engaged four judges but one judge, VSO member Terri Corneil, graciously offered to end her judging assignment and run one of her dogs instead. That helped with our expenses and she also stepped in to Marshal for the day. Thanks Terri!! VSO members Jennifer & Rob Feasby hosted the delicious lunch, and everyone really seemed to really enjoy one of the first days out with their dogs. Special and great thanks to the Feasbys and all the other club members - Gary Krammer, Laura Wright, David Fansolato - who helped out. We simply couldn’t run these events without our volunteers and other helpers!! Our judges, gunners, and marshal did a fantastic job as always. They were: Judges: Craig McDonald, Jack Dafoe, and Greg Marshall; Gunners: Don Emerson and Don Hillis; Marshal; Terri Corneil. And a special thank you to VSO members Hans and Johanna Handke who got up early to bring their Field Dog Excellent Champion, Sage, to run as bye dog.
Thanks to our entrants and everyone who came out to support our club and especially to Marcia McNabb for her first event going ‘solo’ and fully officiating as Test Secretary. Congratulations to all who earned a passing score, in particular to VSO member Laura Write and “Emma” who completed their FDA (Field Dog Advanced) title! Congratulations to Laura and Emma!
